How will Enterprises Succeed in 2023 with VR and AI? - Idea Usher

#artificialintelligence

VR and AI (virtual reality and artificial reality) are not new inventions. VR uses technology to create simulated environments into which we can immerse ourselves, whereas AI seeks to empower technical gadgets with the understanding and awareness of a responsive creature. Recently, significant improvements have been made to enhance VR and AI and integrate them to develop a unified type of technology with virtually limitless possibilities. Both VR and AI have a growing market; a Grand View Research study claims that by 2025, "the worldwide artificial intelligence market size is estimated to reach USD 390.9 billion." Between 2019 and 2025, the market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 46.2 percent.

Business schools look to AI and VR to enhance digital courses

#artificialintelligence

Warwick Business School's Distance Learning MBA started 36 years ago as a postal course -- a mode of delivery that must seem positively quaint to any students born in that inaugural year of 1986. Today's learners access the course via a bespoke online platform which, Warwick says, enables them to "engage in lectures in real time . . . As online MBA providers vie to attract students, all are becoming more inventive in the way they deliver content. Before long, technologies such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence may make current courses look as outdated as an envelope of study materials thudding on to a doormat. Investment has been accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic, which forced business schools to teach even conventional MBA students remotely. Find out which schools are in our ranking of Online MBA degrees. Take a look at our analysis and methodology. Also, read the rest of our coverage at www.ft.com/online-learning. Warwick's technology now includes green-screen video studios that allow presenters to be superimposed on different backgrounds. "We take some content from a member of faculty that's a flat information-sharing process," says Dot Powell, the school's director of teaching and learning enhancement. "Around that, we'll design activities, interactive features and encourage the students to engage with the content and with each other.

VR and AI: Two Technologies Set To Merge

#artificialintelligence

Technology is the wave of the future, and considering all the technological advances that are taking place at such a rapid pace, it's safe to say that the wave of the future is definitely here. Technology touches our lives on a constant basis; we've become so reliant on it as a society that it's almost impossible to imagine what life would be like without it. Looking toward the future, the global society is only going to become more reliant on technology, as more and more advances are introduced on a seemingly daily basis. Technological devices have certainly provided us with numerous benefits, and it's exciting to think about what other devices and applications we'll be introduced to and how they'll improve our lives even more in the coming years. We're already seeing the next phase of technological development, and that phase is convergence.

Europe's funding for deep tech like AI and VR fell 13% in 2020

#artificialintelligence

As European startups try to gain a competitive edge against the U.S. and China, there has been a big push to promote "deep tech." And recent years have indeed seen a surge in European startups developing products based on scientific breakthroughs. But it looks like the pandemic has put a dent in that momentum, at least for now. According to the latest State of European Tech report, funding for deep tech in Europe fell from $10.2 billion last year to $8.9 billion in 2020. The report is produced annually by venture capital firm Atomico in partnership with Slush, Orrick, and Silicon Valley Bank.

Transforming surgery with AI and immersive tech

#artificialintelligence

Virtual reality and artificial intelligence are being touted as the transformative tools that will reduce human error in the operating room. But how do they work? We speak to Gabriel Jones, CEO and co-founder of Seattle-based Proprio, to find out. Proprio was founded in 2016 by Dr. Sam Browd, a pediatric neurosurgeon, with the initial goal to eliminate the need for loupes - the magnifying glasses surgeons wear to perform delicate operations, and replace them with a digital alternative. In the four years since, Browd and his co-founders Gabriel Jones and James Youngquist (Chief Technology Officer) have added machine learning, computer vision, robotics and mixed reality to their solution to augment human vision during surgery.

How one startup is using AI and VR to help drug addicts

#artificialintelligence

You are in a black sedan parked in a dimly-lit alley at night. In the passenger seat a female, dressed in white top and jeans, asks if you want to share some meth. She lights up and smoke fills the interior. The scenario may sound real enough but it is an immersive virtual reality (VR) experience designed to determine how prone the participant is to drug use by tracking their pulse, brainwaves and the electrical conductance of the skin. Using artificial intelligence that combines the responsive patterns from over 10,000 addiction cases, the system generates a drug craving score, according to Li Dai, founder and chief executive of Beijing-based start-up WonderLab, developer of the technology. The company is working with rehabilitation centers in more than 10 Chinese provinces and municipalities including Shandong, Sichuan, Yunnan, Beijing and Chongqing, to apply the AI-enabled assessment as a follow-up to addiction treatment.

Here's How Consumerization of AI and VR Could Transform HR Management

#artificialintelligence

Employee Experience is a 21st century reality that no organization, big or small, can escape. But it is a concept that has been forced to be reinvented time and again because of the changing nature of workplace, technology and the shifting definition of an'employee'. How then, can organizations uniformly extend an employee experience aligned with their employer brand and culture? The Consumerization of Artificial Intelligence in HR is addressing questions such as these and much more.
